Who We Are
Our Story
At the time of purchase of the house and land, two weeks before the closing, there was a fire that destroyed the house. Other than a farmer, Pierre's main gig is a local contractor and carpenter.
So, with much consideration, he offered to rebuild the home and purchase the land. After doing this, in a five-month turn around, we had a new home and open field to do something special with.
The following year we were able to concentrate on developing the fruit farm itself. Within the past 9 years (Makana Farms was established in 2017,) we have planted: 600 wine grapes, over 80 apple trees, 18 peach trees, 8 pear trees, a raspberry, strawberry, blueberry, and garlic patch, plus all the infrastructure to support it, irrigation, a 1500 square foot subterranean greenhouse, endless fence line, flowerbeds, and our farmstand along with other various other farm projects. With our heads down while working on completing project after project; we have to remember to pull our heads up and look around at how far we have come. We have taken the time to do this without investors, both to avoid taking on large debt, and also to keep a certain vibe and energy on our farm that is simply unique and special. While we love having our hands in the rich soil we have created, we also love connecting with our community.
When we started developing our farm we knew that we were looking at a 10-15 year plan to create the larger dream we had for it. Being directly on route 9, people have watched the farm grow right along side of us, constantly wondering what we are up to now. The appreciation we regularly receive for what we are doing with the land, what we are giving to our community, and the beautiful view for those driving by is far more than we ever anticipated. We have treasured having this nook to ourselves, but are excited to continue opening it up more to the public with new offerings and experiences to come!
Meet the Team
Makana
Makana, our "wanna be Aussie", is happiest when he is with his humans . He will stay by your side and lick you for as long as you can handle. He is a absolute love, and wouldn't hurt a fly, but will be the first to help critters escape and avoid his farming duties.

Murder Bitch
Peanut is happiest when she is hunting on the farm & exploring in the woods. When she catches a mole or vole she is bursting with pride. While she is very sweet, she loves protecting her farm and takes her job very seriously. She is happy to take on her and her brothers farming duties any time she can.

We love our hens! In return for the organic high quality food we give them they provide us with delicious and nutritious high quality eggs. They provide wonderful fertilizer for our soil!
Our Love Story
We met at our first job, Friendly's on Federal Street in Greenfield when we were 16 years old. We dated for a little while, and for reasons we don't completely remember, decided it was best to just be friends. While we stayed in each others lives for a while, eventually as life happens to do, we went in two different directions, and lost connection with one another, but never forgot about each other.
In our mid thirties we reconnected. Pierre was in need of some divorce advice and our mutual friend sent him over to me for some in hopes that I could help him spend less than she did. After a text out of the blue, we met up for dinner to catch back up. We picked up like no time had passed, simply enjoying reconnecting with an old friend. After we had dinner and it was time to head home we gave each other a hug good night and walked away, both looking over our shoulders at each other.
We had no idea what that dinner was about to bring us. it still blows are minds that after all that time life brought us back together, right where we are ment to be.
